ADDISVILLE LEGACY

FOUNDATION

A Word from Pastor Doug Dwyer

In his book I Almost Missed the Sunset, songwriter Bill Gaither shares how he and his wife Gloria were looking for a piece of property on which to build their house.

He noticed a parcel of land and learned it belonged to an elderly retired banker name Mr. Yule. When they approached him about selling the property he told them that he was not interested.

Staring at Bill he asked, “What’d you say your name was?” “Gaither. Bill Gaither.” “Hmmm. Any relation to Grover Gaither?” “Yes, sir. He was my granddad.” Mr. Yule removed his glasses. “Interesting. Grover Gaither was the best worker I ever had on my farm. So honest. What’d you say you wanted?” Bill told him again. “Let me do some thinking on it, then come back and see me.” Bill came back within the week and Mr. Yule sold him the land at a very reasonable price.

When Bill and his son stroll that beautiful, lush property Bill reminds him, “Benjy, you’ve had this wonderful place to grow up through nothing that you’ve done, but because of the good name of a great- granddad you never met.”

As the years pass Jane and I are conscious of the legacy we leave behind. Our sons (who are both walking with the Lord) have been blessed by the ministry of this church.

We believe this church can reach generations not yet born for Jesus Christ, but it needs you.
